The Dwarf Simpson Stopper is a compact, dense evergreen shrub. Unlike its larger tree-form relative, this cultivar is specifically prized for its slow growth and manageable size, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance landscapes.
Size: Typically grows 3–5 feet tall, maintaining a naturally rounded and thick form.
Origin: A Florida native, it is well-adapted to local climates and is frequently found in coastal hammock areas.
Aroma: One of its most distinct features is the fragrance; the leaves emit a spicy, citrus, or nutmeg-like scent when crushed.
Flowers & Bark: In spring and summer, it produces small, dainty white flowers. As the plant matures, it develops attractive peeling or "naked" bark, adding textural interest to the garden.
Wildlife Appeal: The flowers are a magnet for pollinators, and the berries that follow are highly favored by songbirds.
Because it is slow-growing and dense, it requires significantly less pruning than the standard tree form. It works beautifully as a low hedge, a foundation plant, or as part of a native wildlife garden.
